Steve Fisher, Group Publisher of Woodward Community Media, announced that Lee Borkowski, General Manager of Unified Newspaper Group, will take on the additional responsibilities of General Manager of the Richland Center and Wisconsin-Iowa Shopping News. Lee will replace Deb Mullarkey, who is leaving the company June 30 to be with family in Arizona. The change is effective July 1. Lee will continue to report to Steve Fisher.
“Lee has a wealth of knowledge and experience in the free paper industry. Her experience in overseeing multiple publications in her past makes her a natural fit for this position,” Fisher said. “We are blessed with many experienced employee owners in Richland Center and Prairie du Chien. I’m confident that Lee will work well with both operations.
Lee joined Woodward Communications, Inc. in October 2009, overseeing the day-to-day operations of the Verona Press, Stoughton Courier Hub, Oregon Observer, and Great Dane Shopping News publications.
Lee has more than 30 years of experience in community newspaper publishing. She joined her family-owned shopping guide, Trade Lines, in 1977, learning the business from the ground up. There she served in several positions, from graphics specialist to general manager to Publisher. In 2000 she joined Journal Community Publishing Group and served as its regional manager, with direct oversight of the Stevens Point and Wausau Buyers Guides.
Lee’s accolades include the Association of Free Community Papers’ (AFCP) Publisher of the Year and Distinguished Service Awards. She served as that organization’s president, and is a past board member. She is also a past board member and president of the Community Papers of Michigan, and is currently a member of Wisconsin Community Papers.
Tina Knable will serve as interim Sales and Marketing Manager at Unified Newspaper Group, assuming managerialresponsibilities for Advertising and Circulation as we go through a formalized search for a Sales and Marketing Manager at UNG.
